When it comes to bluebird nesting, design matters more than decoration. The Gilbertson Bluebird Nest Box is one of the most proven nest box designs ever created — trusted by bluebird conservationists for decades and NABS Approved for proper nesting success.

This nest box follows the original Gilbertson design, offering the right interior space, ventilation, and drainage bluebirds need to feel safe and raise healthy broods. Its simple layout encourages faster nesting while making monitoring and seasonal cleaning easy for you.

Choose between a natural cedar roof for a classic look or a poly lumber roof for maximum weather resistance and zero maintenance. Both options are built to handle years of outdoor exposure.

Whether you’re starting a bluebird trail or adding a trusted box to your backyard, this is a proven, no-nonsense nest box built to support bluebirds — season after season.

Cavity Size: 4" x 7.25"
Entrance Hole 1.5" diameter

To attach or remove the PVC cavity from the roof squeeze the sides towards the top edge, this will allow it to slide on and off the protruding screws on the bottom of the roof.

To mount your bluebird house, you have two easy options:

Option 1: Use a 7 to 8-foot long, 1/2-inch metal electrical conduit (available at most hardware stores). Simply push or drive it into the ground about 18–24 inches deep so it's stable, then attach the house near the top.

Option 2: Use a 36-inch ground stake or rebar and slide a 5-foot long 1/2-inch conduit over it. This makes setup easy and adds extra support.

Both methods give your bluebird house the right height and stability for a safe nesting space.

I set my birdhouse up two days ago and I already have new tenants! The house looks great in our backyard and can't wait to watch the new family move in.

Great quality! Easy to assemble. I got a 5’ piece of 3/8” fiberglass rebar and drove it down about 18” and slid a 1/2” piece of 1/2” galvanized steel conduit over it. We’ve had some decent winds and it is doing great!
We only had one bluebird inspection and, as such, there is now a tree swallow building its nest inside. I love the swallows, but am disappointed that the bluebird didn’t choose it first.
Haven’t had any sparrow interest, so that’s a good thing! Maybe next year!

These are great boxes for nesting Bluebirds! I just purchased 2 more and as usual, they are well built and worth every penny. I've had nesting Bluebirds in my yard the last 3 years (I'm a beginner), and 2 of the 3 years, they have chosen this style for at least one of their broods (I have other style houses around my property). This year, they have chosen the Gilbertson style again and she is currently setting on 4 eggs! And added benefit is that Birdhaven has the best price on these houses that I could find anywhere, making buying multiples more affordable. I am considering starting a "trail" of houses around my area, and will definitely buy more from Birdhaven.

This is a lovely birdhouse but we have aggressive sparrows who avoided it for a few days but then moved in. Fortunately, it's easy to open so I'll just keep removing their nests and I'll try a different location. I still have high hopes that in the right location I'll get bluebirds and tree swallows to nest in it.

looks great ,but nothing nesting after two weks?

Thanks for the feedback, I’m glad you like how it looks.

Two weeks is actually still very early. Bluebirds can take time to accept a new nest box. It’s not uncommon for it to take several weeks or even a full season. They tend to be cautious and often scout locations for a while before committing.

I hope you see them move in soon!

We had bluebirds move in within a week of putting this nesting box up. We have two Peterson Bluebird nesting boxes and they bluebirds have started nest but then the sparrows move in. I am sold on this box!

I am very happy to have found these bird houses as we have other ones that are worn out. Appreciate the quality!

We have two Gilbertson houses already but lost one when a big hemlock came down on it during the blizzard in February. We prefer the cedar roof as it doesn't got too hot for the birds to perch on. We are now hoping the bluebirds will find it in its old location and move right in. Thank you for providing a quality product that can be hard to find with the cedar roof.
