It took about 4. Days for the bluebirds to get comfortable to use it. Now it’s like a restaurant. There favorite place to eat.
Sturdy and well built product. No problem with squirrels, starlings or grackles getting into it.
This product far exceeds what I expected. It is extremely well made, will obviously last a long time and well worth the money. My bluebirds figured it out less than 24 hours of putting it up and the wrens within hours. So far the nuisance birds have given up. Extremely happy about that !

This is my second mealworm feeder for the bluebirds I have purchased. One is the double bowl style and the other is the one with continuous feed. I have found the bluebirds like flying through the bars more than going into a hold to find mealworms. Previously I used a birdhouse style mealworm feeder and although it worked ok, a lot of mealworms were wasted and lots of Starlings trying to intrude. This style feeder is Starling proof and does not waster mealworms. Most important is the bluebirds use it on a regular basis. Great product for bluebird lovers like myself. I highly recommend as an amazing mealworm feeder.
This is a well built product and has been successful at keeping my mealworms for my small birds - bluebirds, warblers, etc and away from the crows that were eating EVERYTHING!
I love this feeder. It arrived yesterday currently waiting on my husband to put the two brackets on that I purchased before I hang it before I hang it.
Perfect timing I had five bluebirds fledged this morning and the rinky-dink cup. I’ve been using in the back. This will be replacing. The quality of this is amazing and now I won’t have to keep going outside and refilling it as often as I had been.
I have a BlueBird nest box with camera and decided to replace by open cup/mealworm feeder to help out the Eastern Bluebirds through the spring nesting season with this feeder. It took about 2 weeks - I was about to remove the rail to give them easier access and then, lo, the birds understood the assignment and started ducking into the center when the babies hatched. This feeder has exceeded my expectations. Easy to clean. Easy to load. No waste. Attractive. It DOES keep out Starlings and Mockingbirds but they were kind of obnoxious when the Starling fledglings discovered it - sitting on the box hoping their parents could shake loose some worms. Anyway - the big birds gave up and left. Now the whole first BlueBird family has returned to feed and my normal "I just feed until June" mantra has been blown up and I will continue to keep this feeder in action year round. I will be buying more from BirdHaven. Beautiful design and really well made.

I love this feeder! It is so well made, keeps the food dry and the birds sheltered during the rain. It's the perfect feeder!
The bluebirds found it in a day and I have the fledglings and parents all the time. I’d give it a 5 if it truly kept starlings away. They soar in, hang on the base and eat the scattered seeds and crumbs. So no. They aren’t draining the seed supply but they continue to bully and scare the bluebirds.

You’re right that determined starlings can still hang around and pick up scattered seed or crumbs. The feeder is designed to help limit access to the food inside, but unfortunately it can’t fully stop aggressive birds from coming near the feeder or trying to bully others.

This feeder is everthing it is advertised to be. Durable, easy to fill and the Bluebirds use it.
I have tried many mealworm feeders to defeat the pesky and persistent starlings and this one is by far the best, and the quality is excellent.
I was so pleased that I bought two more.
If desirable birds scatter some worms close to the sides, starlings will reach through the bars and grab what they can reach but they cannot reach the main supply.
Perhaps it could be an extra inch wide on each side to mitigate that potential but my bluebirds and Wrens and chickadees took to them in a day.
Finally victorious over the Starlings. We tried 2 others prior to this one - yes it is a tad expensive - but if we had purchased this product originally . . . we would have saved money. The Starlings can clamor on at the edge of the feeder and get a crumb or two, but they generally get frustrated and fly off. Go Bluebirds. Added benefit: the feeder is made of weather resistant material (similar to Trex) and will give years of service.
I love the look and convenience of filling this feeder with mealworms for my bluebirds. Just put it out, so we'll see how they like it. As long as those darn starlings and blackbirds can't get in, I'll be happy.
It worked for awhile but now the starling are here they are able to come in and finish all in less than a day
I modified it by adding blocks and it worked only the blue birds are able to go in

Unfortunately, some starlings can become incredibly persistent once they discover mealworms. We’ve been testing different ideas to help discourage them while still keeping the original Gilbertson-style design that bluebirds are comfortable using.

I really love my birdfeeder however the little sparrows can get into it. I love the fact that it really made the Mockingbird's mad because they couldn't eat all of my meal worm food, so they left their calling card all over the feeder. I hope I will be able to clean it really well next time I refill.

It’s nice and sturdy, which is great for my area since we get frequent storms. I just wish the hanging ring were a bit bigger. My feeder pole is pretty tall, so I have to use a ladder, and with the weight and the small ring, it’s a bit tricky to hang it on the curled hook.
The BlueFeast™ Deluxe Bluebird Feeder is a solid feeder and I am pleased with my purchase. It is bigger than I thought which gives the birds plenty of dining space. The mealworm gravity-fed system allows me to refill less and enjoy watching more. The material they use for the feeder is ideal for outdoor, all-weather use. Overall, I am happy with my purchase and use the feeder every day.
